Free Story Coloring Pages for Kids 6–12: All 12 Meowelo Printables, and Which to Print First

Twelve free printables, one from each Meowelo book: a short story moment to read and a scene to color. What's on each one, which to choose for an evening, a busy afternoon or a curious explorer, and how to make ten minutes of reading and coloring out of a single page.

By 5 min read

The Meowelo Free Library is twelve free printables for children aged 6 to 12, one from each book in the series. Each has two pages: a short story moment to read together, and the scene from that moment to color. They're free to print at home or in a classroom, and they're kept in your own My downloads space so you can print them again any time. If you're not sure where to start, choose by the mood of the day: a quiet evening page, a making page or an exploring page.

Below you'll find what's on all twelve, which to print first for different children and moments, and a simple ten-minute way to use any of them.

What's on each printable

Every printable follows the same rhythm as the books: READ a short story moment (a few sentences, easy to read aloud), NOTICE the details in the picture, COLOR it your way and DISCOVER what happens next in the full book. The coloring page is black line art with no gray shading, so every color is the child's choice.

All twelve, by mood

Quiet evening pages

Gentle scenes for the end of the day, with lanterns, stars and moonlight.

Which to print first

  • For a first try: Lunai and the Quiet Moon. It's the first book, it introduces Lunai, and the puddle with a second moon is a lovely thing to notice.
  • For a child who likes big, bright coloring: The Rainbow Kite. A kite, ribbon tails and a wide sky leave lots of room for color.
  • For a child who loves details: Cheddo's Little Basket or Myro's Unfinished Map, full of small things to find.
  • Before bed: any of the evening pages, read slowly.
  • For two children at once: print two pages from the same mood, so they're coloring different scenes of the same kind of adventure.

A ten-minute way to use any printable

  1. Read the story moment aloud (one minute). Older children can read it to you, or to a younger sibling.
  2. Notice one thing together (one minute). "What's hiding near the pond?" Wondering out loud works better than quizzing.
  3. Color it their way (five to eight minutes, or as long as they like). Any colors, over the lines or not.
  4. Ask what happens next (one minute). Their guess is often better than any ending.

For more on reading together with children who can already read, see our guide to reading aloud to older kids. And if you're printing at home, how to print coloring pages covers the paper and settings that keep the lines crisp.

In a classroom or group

The printables work well for a short group activity: read the story moment aloud to the whole group, then let each child color their own copy. Children who finish early can draw what they think happens next on the back. Teachers and group leaders are welcome to print copies for their own class.

Where the printables come from

Each free printable is a moment from one of the twelve Little Adventures, Big Feelings books, a series of story-and-coloring adventures for ages 6 to 12 by Leo Melven. The books are in preparation; the printables let you meet the seven friends and their world now. When you collect them, they're kept in My downloads, which you open with your email and a 6-digit code, so you never need to search for them again.
